3-day hiking Trip

Day 1 of my weekend hiking trip with friends Crabtree Falls to AT and Back: 7.9 miles - 1706 ft. We stay in an AirBNB house in Wintergreen Resort, enjoyed a homemade jumbo shrimp dinner, playing games, and having good time.

Day 2 of weekend hiking trip: Three Ridges - 13.3 miles- 3917 ft elevation. I cannot ask for a better hiking day. We had steak and salmon for dinner tonight.

Day 3 of my weekend hiking trip: AT - Tye River to the Priest - 7.4 miles - 3196 ft. elevation. I thought it was straight up, yet turned out to be a lot of switchbacks. We had chicken for dinner.

Manassas Gap to Whiskey Hollow on Appalachian Trail for 14.2 mile

I joined a meetup hike from Manassas Gap to Whiskey Hollow on Appalachian Trail for 14.2 mile with 3000 feet elevation gain on this nice and cool spring day. There were many wild flowers along the way. Some of us went wine tasting after the hike, and I ran very slow 6 miles due to dehydration. Anyway, I finished my weekend 20 hike/run miles goal.

Dark Hallow Falls then up to Hawksbill for 12.4 m

I joined a friends hike starting from the skyline drive down to Dark Hallow Falls then up to Hawksbill (peak of Shenandoah National Park) for 12.4 miles with 2900 feet elevation gain. The weather was nice and we shared cookies and drinks at the end of the hike. I did some grocery shopping then ran 7.6 miles after the hike, to meet my 20 hike/run miles weekend goal.

17.6 miles with 4200 feet elevation gain along Sam’s Ridge

I hiked with a meetup group today for 17.6 miles with 4200 feet elevation gain along Sam’s Ridge, Buck Hollow/Ridge and Hazel River Trails. The cool drizzle made the steep uphills easier. A few stream crossing on the way out spice up the hike. Thanks to George’s brilliant idea of placing a towel on a slippery rock as foothold to cross a river. I am glad that I did not fall on rocks or into river today, although I slept shallow last night. I managed to shop in Walmart and then ran 3 miles after the hike yet before dark, to finish my weekend 20 hike/run miles goal.

21-mile “boot camp” hike on the Application Trail

I joined 7 friends to do this 21-mile 3800 ft elevation “boot camp” hike today on the Application Trail between Panorama and Matthews Arm out and back @ 3 mile per hour pace. The day started with 27f then warm up to 50f and sunny. I tried on my new ankle gaiters and really like them. We moved so fast that I didn’t have many opportunities to take photos.
