play: She Kills Monsters

 

I used the sharp side of a hammer to dig icy snow around my car for 1.5 hours, yet still couldn’t clean enough to drive my car. Therefore, I walked 0.8 mikes one way to Reston Community Center to usher the play: She Kills Monsters. The play was about a high school teacher grieving her younger sister died in a car crash, as she discovers her sister's passion for Dungeons & Dragons by playing through her D&D module with a friend, to understand her sisiter better, a hidden life as a lesbian in the 90s.

There was still a lot of snow in the parking lot near the center. I am glad that I got to get out of my house after being trapped by the snow and cold temperatures in 0-20 f (- 12 to - 7 c) for one week. I only did yoga and lifted weights in the morning each day.

Happy hour hosted by Google

 

Considering all my weekend events were postponed due to the forecast snow storm, I went in DC for a happy hour hosted by Google. I met some interesting people working in politics and tested two kinds of cocktails with delicious food.

I also ran on Friday to get some exercises before the snow storm. There will be a hike on Saturday but I don’t want to hike in 10-20f temperatures. I only logged in 13 running miles this week.

Snow hike Little Devil Stairs

 

I hiked with friends over snow up the Little Devil Stairs for 12.3 miles with 2900 feet elevation this Saturday. The weather forecast called for 47f dry day, yet it surprised us with accumulated snow from last night then snowing at the beginning of our hike for at least half an hour. We slowed down to avoid falling on the slippery trails with snow. However, some of us still fell a few times, yet no one got injured.

Plus weekday 3.36 miles run and after hike 3.35 miles run, I logged in 19 hike/run miles this week. I seized the window after hike to run, since it will rain/snow on Sunday.

Hike Trumbo Hollow trail

 

Since Saturday will rain the whole day, I skipped work to hike with three friends on the Trumbo Hollow trail along the Appalachia Trail for 11 miles with 2100 feet elevation gain. No view but warm and sunny weather.

Plus my 9.5 mile run, i logged in 20.5 hike/run miles this week.

Maryland Heights hike

 

I skipped work to hike with three friends at Harpers Ferry along Maryland Heights for 8.6 miles with 1800 feet elevation gain in 30f. We stopped by a coffe shop in town.

Plus 9.75 miles weekday runs and 3.6 miles sunday run, I logged in 22 hike/run miles this week.

 On new year day, I accompanied a friend to a neighbor’s house warming party for a residence renovated from a school house in Aldie.
