We were very lucky to enjoy a relatively cool and dry 16.4 mile 3400 feet
elevation hike via Pocosin Hollow and Slaughter Trails in Central SNP,
until the last 2 miles heavy rain. There were four stream crossings
required water shoes, an exciting rock scrambling, and lots of azaleas.
We also stopped by a church ruin made from long lasting chestnut wood
(> 100 yrs). I ran 10 m on Friday to slow down myself for this 2 mph
hike, yet it turned out to be 3 mph to make up for the time spent on the
deep stream crossings. — checked in to Elkton, Virginia.
