 I hiked Bear Church Rock trail for 13.5 miles with 3100 feet elevation gain on dry Saturday, and then the group stopped over a winery.

Lunar new year party with hikers

 

I joined hiking friends for a welcome Rabbit Year party with handmade dumplings 饺子，great food, traditional dresses 旗袍，and red envelopes 紅包。Each red envelope was inserted with one dollar for the good luck of 一元复始,萬象更新.

AI translates "一元复始" into "beginning anew from unity" or "a return to unity", and "萬象更新" into "renewal of all things" or "everything is renewed." While Google translates the 2nd part pretty off as "Vientiane (a city in Laos) Renews." I am replacing Google with AI search from now on.

I ran 6 miles on Friday and 6 miles on Sunday plus Monday hike 8 miles surplus to meet my 20 hike/run weekend miles goal.

15-m hikle Buzzard Rock to Elizabeth Furnace

 

Today was US holiday so I took another hike with a meetup group for 15 miles with 4000 feet elevation gain to Buzzard Rock to Elizabeth Furnace to Buzzard Rock Overlook and back. The weather was cool and sunny, but I didn’t like walking on rocky ridges for miles. I exceeded my weekend 20 hike/run mile goal, and had extra 8 miles to apply to next weekend.

I will travel to east and south Africa this summer. Although I haven’t decided whether to hike Mount Kilimanjaro, I started training just in case I will hike later.

little Devil Stairs hike

 I hiked with a group of friends in this very cold (30f/-17c) and windy (20mph) day on the little Devil Stairs trail for 13 miles/ 21km with 3000 feet elevation gain. It was so cold that we did not take many photos. We had an after hike social at a winery.

congressional reception at DC Wharf

 I went in DC to renew passport and attended a congressional reception at DC Wharf. The was my first ride from Silver Line Reston Town Center stop. I ran into old friends and made new friends.

Nostos Restaurant at Tysons Corner

 Enjoyed a big Greek dinner with friends @ Nostos Restaurant at Tysons Corner with a fresh, modern take on Greek food and cosy atmosphere. This restaurant is very popular that we were forced to take late booking time slot.

Bear Church Rock hike

 

I went hiking with a meetup group to get on Bear Church Rock for 13.8 miles with 3200 feet elevation gain on beautiful trails. It was dry until we got close to the Rock and then rained most of the hike. It was foggy on the Rock. I was cool form the rain until putting on my poncho after the last major uphill. We ran into two horses on the way down.

Glad that I had spare dry clothes to change, and went to a winery nearby after the hike. The weather turns dry, sunny, and warm, while we were in the winery enjoying food, wine, and music.
