17-mile Thornton Hollow/Piney Ridge Loop hike

I usually avoid hiking in the rain, but took this hike as 50f was warm enough to get wet and also to stay active before my long trip to New Zealand and Australia.

Had I remembered how high the river was last time I hiked Thornton Hollow/Piney Ridge Loop, I would have skipped this hike. There were six river crossings that I used booties given by our thoughtful hike leader Denise to walk via. My body stayed dry until the second half of the hike, and my boots got wet almost the end of this 17-mile 3150 ft elevation gain hike. Pretty tired and cold at the end of the day, yet quite a nice note to end my 2018 winter hiking season in DC. See you again in June, my friends in DC.

A play: The Farnsworth Invention

I ushered a play at 1st stage theater at Tysons corner: The Farnsworth Invention, about Philo Farnsworth's invention of television signal transmission and David Sarn RCA president who allegedly stole his invention. It was hard to determined in the play who actually unlock the key to the greatest innovation of the 20th century: the ruthless media mogul, or the self-taught Idaho farm boy. owever, according to wikipedia, this play is an intentional alteration of the story. It shows Farnsworth as being defeated legally by Sarnoff, and then spending his life in obscurity. In reality, Farnsworth won the lawsuit, later received a $1 million payment from RCA for the purchase of his TV patents, and went on to have an illustrious career in technological research.

16-mile Big Schloss hike

I had a 16-mile 3300 ft gain fun hike with a meetup today in the George Washington National Forest to check out Big Schloss but skipped Tibbet Knob due to snow. We had a sunny morning to finish two uphills, dry snow for the 2nd half of hike, and then hot coffee/drinks offered by our wonderful hike leader Karen at the end of hike. What a fun day! We saw a lot of car accidents on the way back on Route 66 though.

GuruGanesha Band

As a part of Open House Weekend of Beloved Yoga in Reston, the GuruGanesha Band activated the Sanctuary with music/mantra, and the audience danced under the power of sacred/spiritual music. This brand new yoga facility is only 2 miles away from my home and it will have free classes in 4 Studios & Lounge Talks - 9am to 5pm on Sunday 2/11.

Lake Thoreau

Instead of hiking in the rain for 15 miles, I ran 10 miles at 10:47 per mile and then walked almost 6 miles to check out Lake Thoreau. Virginia German Shepherd Rescue happened to have an adoption event at the nearby shopping center. Glad that I only got rain during the last 2 miles of my walk. BTW, this morning I ate the first ever egg with two yolks.

11th GEMALaw Symposium by Georgetown

I was in DC whole day on Friday for 11th GEMALaw Symposium by Georgetown Entertainment & Media Alliance. The content was very informative and the performance by Lawcapella was entertaining. BTW, I saw some Limebikes near Union Station. LimeBike is a bicycle-sharing company based in San Mateo, California. It operates dockless bicycle-sharing systems in several cities and college campuses across the United States. It costs $1 for 30 minutes. China's biggest bike sharing company OFO is rolling into DC $1 for an hour. Let's when they are coming to Northern Virginia.

21-m Roller Coaster AT hike

I woke up 5:15 am to carpool for a Full 30 mile Out-And-Back Roller Coaster hike on Appalachian Trail in 15f. However, four out of six hikers (including me) turned around and finished 21 miles with 6000 feet elevation gain, while the remaining two hikers probably hiked with headlamps and got back at 9 pm. I could barely caught up with the fast hikers so no time to take more photos. It was sunny but cold so I used hand warmers inside my gloves. I did the full hike twice before in summer yet after several longer distance hikes to condition my body. But I did not do enough 18-25 miles hikes this winter to finish 30 miles today. Another concern was shorter day night in winter and I avoid hiking in the dark. I was and still very tired from hiking the 21 miles.
