Weekend Runs

I ran 7 miles on Saturday after the rain passed over, skipped Sunday hike and ran 13 miles. It was very pleasant to run in 65f, comparing with 80f yesterday afternoon. Love today’s weather.

Super wet and slippery hike

This was the wettest hike I ever had, and I fell on my left knee when walking down White Oak Canyon trail while the rain gushing down. We finished this 13.9 miles 3500 feet elevation gain hike: Cedar Run/Hawksbill/White Oak Canyon in ~ 8 hrs. The uphills part took 3.5 hours due to some wet rocks and stream crossing. The downhills in pouring rain was very scary because the rocks were wet and very slippery while my eye glasses got too foggy to see trail well. We had a birthday party for Wanda at the end of hike, and I was very happy to see everyone finished the hike without injuries. I dragged my feet to run 6.1 miles on Sunday morning to make my weekend 20 hike/run mile target.

Buck Ridge - Mary's Rock AT hike

My group of 8 hiking friends took this Buck Ridge to Mary's Rock and back down Buck Hollow (9.4 miles/ 2600 ft elevation) regardless raining forecast for Saturday, yet the weather turned out to be cool and pleasant (70f) and we had after-hike picnic. BTW, we ran into the same AT section hiker I met on roller coaster last Saturday at Mary’s Rock. What a small world! I ran 10.6 miles on Sunday morning, to meet my 20 miles hike/run for this weekend.

14-mile hike on AT roller coaster section hike

I organized a friend’s hike on the roller coaster section of Appalachian Trail. Three of us hiked 14.4 miles with 3600 feet elevation gain in 80f overcast weather. It was a good workout. We ran into three lost grannies hiking with iPad map, a section hiker, and a bachelor party group heading into the woods in the afternoon. An interesting Saturday day! I ran 5.8 miles Sunday morning to make up my weekend 20 hike/run total mile ritual since COVID, to compensate for extra food I eat when trapping at home.

very humid 10-m hike

I hiked with the other nine hiking friends in George Washington National Forest to Sherman Gap and an overlook then looped back for 10.5 miles and 2000 feet elevation gain in 80f but extremely humid day. I enjoyed some wild blue berries on the way (mostly still green), the overlook, and cold drinks at the end of the hike. By the way, we saw the same black snake sighted last weekend by another group. Also, this was the first time I noticed the signage "OD 100" for Old Dominion 100 Mile Cross Country Run. No, I don't think I will ever try it. Running 100 miles in 28 hours sounds impossible for me.
