I hiked with a group and Sierra the hiking dog to White Rocks Cliff/Little Schloss in GW national forest 15.4 miles with 2660 elevation gain at 2.5-3 mph. The weather was cool, dry, and perfect for hiking. My 1st car pool vehicle could not start, so I sit in the middle backseat in the 2nd car pool until a meeting stop to jump on the 3rd carpool. I have been hiking in the DC area for 16 years yet hiked these two seldom offered hiked with spectacular views for the first time. A wonderful hike plus Saturday 7.25 mile run made my good weekend. — checked in to George Washington National Forest.

I watched a free 2-hr screening of award winning documentary MERU under the stars at The Plaza at Tyson's Corner sponsored by north face about the adventure of Jimmy Chin, Conrad Anker, and Renan Ozturk plus free food and swags, cannot be better. Meru Peak is a mountain that lies in the Garhwal Himalayas, in India of 6,660 metres (21,850 ft) high. BTW, north face provides free chairs. — checked in to Tysons Corner Plaza

Attended a meeting and a happy hour organized by sales force non-profit and made some new fiends. — eating happy hour at Heavy Seas Alehouse Arlington.

biked 38 miles on w&od trail

 

 

 

 

I biked 38 miles on w&od trail today, over one year since last time on my bike. I ran into a guy biker carrying his dog on his back, and kids competing in the Herndon Kids triathlon. It will take awhile for me to get back to riding 90 miles a day. — checked in to Smith's Switch Station - W&OD Trail.

Fiesta DC Parade

I went to see the parade celebrating Latino American culture in DC. Greetings to my travel friends met in South American in 2011 and in Central American in 2014! I still had hard time to distinguish flags of these counties today. — checked in to Fiesta DC

After 10 mile run, I went in DC for Booz Allen Hamilton virtual reality workshop, and I tried demos of Microsoft Hololens, HTC Vive, Google Cardboard, and Oculus Rift. Ocean Len gave pretty realistic fast flying over ocean bed experience without dizziness, but I like Vive best which has best interactive features (I did Starwars this time). Hololens weights 1.5 lb cost $3000, yet has built in computer thus do not requires a smartphone to pair with like Google glass. — checked in to Booz Allen Hamilton.

ANGELS IN AMERICA - Part I: Millennium Approaches & PART II: PERESTROIKA

I rushed from the trail head directly to the theater box office, then changed clothes there for the play ANGELS IN AMERICA, Tony Kushner’s Pulitzer Prize- and Tony Award-winning masterpiece. Roundhouse theater's mobile stage presented the play more fluently and dynamically than the YouTube clips I saw. Me and Candice R. Lin enjoyed the 3-hr long Part I: Millennium Approaches very much, and plan to come back for the 3.5-hr long Part II: Perestroika. The play dramatically presented Sexuality, religion, and politics colliding at the beginning of the AIDS crisis. — checked in to Round House Theatre

I watched the 3.5 hour ANGELS IN AMERICA PART II: PERESTROIKA. Maybe because of the exposure to Part I, Part ll was not as exciting as Part I. However, the set designs and transitions were still Amazing, and the pre-show discussion was very informative, especially that all lighting, music, and set movements were computer programmed.

Cabin John trail 13 mile hike

Let me introduce Sierra, my new hiking friend. She is 5 yr old and can hike 20 miles a day. The whole group did Cabin John trail 17.8 m out and back, while I just did 12-13 miles to catch a play at roundhouse theater. I could not believe that I got lost three times on the way back hiking by myself, but thanks to Map.me app which marked the trail and got me back on trail. "The toponym "Cabin John" is thought to be a corruption of the name "Captain John", but the origin of the name remains unresolved." — checked in to Cabin John Regional Park

Lobby Hero - First Stage Theater in Tysons Corner

 

 

 

I ushered with an old lady for the play Lobby Hero and then watched this 2.5 hrs play about a luckless young security guard, and his tightly wound supervisor are drawn into an unexpected criminal investigation, as the dilemma between loyalties and justice is strained to the breaking point. Time Out NY has hailed the piece as, “A masterpiece. The best drama, the best comedy and the best romance of the year, all rolled into one.” — checked in to First Stage Theater in Tysons Corner.

Watched the comedy THE LAST SCHWARTZ with two friends and learned an important lesson: never compromise with a bad relationship in the hope of getting a family which will not necessarily realize as plan yet bad relationship persists. — checked in to Theater J

hiking alone the roller coaster of the Appalachian Trail

 

 

 

 

I did my third time of hiking alone the roller coaster of the Appalachian Trail today with a small group. They did 22 m with 6000 ft gain, but I did 18.6 m with 5500 gain because my right heel and arch acted up. It was painful yet enjoyable to hike over seven hills with between 3-700 feet of elevation gain twice in a sunny cool day, and enjoyed the views of the Shenandoah Valley, from Bears Den Rocks and Lookout Point. We saw some people at the parking ready to watch stars tonight. — checked in to Appalachian Trail.
