The 2-Hr Nevruz Spring Festival - Discover the Unique Culture of the Turkic World was simply excellent, with wonderful music, songs, dances and amazing costumes on over 100 dancers, singers, musicians from 15 Central Asia countries. Nowruz is the name of the Iranian/Persian New Year, which is celebrated worldwide for over 3,000 years in the Balkans, the Black Sea Basin, the Caucasus, Central Asia, and Western Asia. These top of the line performances only showcase for free in DC and NYC this year. This year is also the 25th year of independence of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan. I grabbed two handful of nuts and two wooden eggs from a basket carried by one dancer for distribution at the end of the show.
